Artist's Comments

I apologize for the horrid quality - but it's high time I upload some stuff.

This came from my sketchbook - hence the awkward task of scanning the image in - but hey, I'll try to work around it.

Ilcaro'd is my own character. Friend or foe, I'm not sure - but he does ask that you do not judge him for his visage.

What language is he speaking by the way? And it's been a long time since you've uploaded anything I noticed.
:icondragynfyre-of-ice:
mmm... it is a good question.

He definitely converses in our language (or the language of my characters - whatever that might be ^^). However, I imagine he communicates in a /different/ way - and not necessarily through spoken word.

As seen, there's much more that I need to discover of my own worlds and characters... :D

Ah, I see. For all I know, he could be speaking in reverse Latin. Haha.

Indeed as I need to practice shading more often.
:icondragynfyre-of-ice:
That is an astute observation!

You get a cookie :D

Yes, I've long intended him to be an oracle of sorts.... Having taken Latin, I use it as my backbone for pretty much everything. As for him, I'm trying not to get hung up on stereotypes. I'm just letting him sit in the back of my mind, allowing his personality to reveal itself to me. ^^

Astute? That's one of my vocabulary terms for English! D: And I know what it means so I guess I can say thank you.

Yay, thankies fer the cookie!

Now, that's some impressive imagination you got there. Most of my characters..or ideas were thought up on the spot. A species of mine was invented during Chemistry last year. And what do you mean by stereotypes by the way?
:icondragynfyre-of-ice:
The most important quality that motivates me as I create my characters is believability.

Now. That's easier said than done... ^^

But, in regards to stereotypes - it's simple to use a stereotype as a frame to flesh out a character. Having read enough novels that use this formula, I'm trying my best to let my characters grow on their own, with no particular personality-type set for them. They have their base motivations (in which I discover what they are - most fun!) and events that occur that shape who they are... Of course, a certain paradox comes into play... for how they react is precisely how their personality dictates. It's a sort of chicken or the egg question...

*muses*

Anyhoo... I feel that in some convoluted way, my brain will spill out a perfectly believable character - through time...

I'm far from that, but hey - it's all a work in progress. ^^

As for me, I try to stay realistic when creating characters. Yes, fantasy doesn't have a lot of restrictions but several people fail to realize realism can be a friend. For example, who wants to play with a demon who can breathe five different types of flame, has nine different forms and other powers that are far beyond comprehension. I'm not saying unique powers aren't acceptable but I refuse to acknowledge a creature who can create stars or see into your mind.

Ah, I understand. Some of my characters' personalities were shaped due to their lives but not all of them.

Not bad but I don't think that would be a good technique for me. Haha. I just try to stick to originality and realism.

I love his visage. n.=.n

HI MY NAME IS BETTY I DON'T THINK IT WORKS!!!
:iconphantasmagora:
I really like the way his face is shpaed and the cloth drapes over it. It looks so incredibly natural on him.

Though your scans are very light, If you have Gimp or Photoshop, use the adjust levels option to darken them, that way a bit more of your pencil work will come in.
